A Painting for 100 Days

Mr. Speedy and I have been officially married for over 100 days.

I just love this picture. It is so.... quiet. Peaceful. If I could picture a heart that is content, it would look something like this.

I just love this picture. It is so…. quiet. Peaceful. If I could picture a heart that is content, it would look something like this.

100 days.

This is basically the gestation period for a pig… which is actually QUITE ironic because we just bought this delightful painting of a pig.

This painting made me laugh so hard at the shop, that I knew I would never get tired of looking at it. It’s one of those works of art is just so simple and plain and ordinary, you kind of feel like you are looking at the extraordinary. It is the type of painting that instantly resurrects a smile from my face.

It makes me feel like I’m looking at something out of storybook:

I wanted to name him 'Saturday' because we bought him on a Saturday, but Mr. Speedy named him Chester.

I wanted to name him ‘Saturday’ because we bought him on a Saturday, but Mr. Speedy named him Chester.

It was done by a local artist that obviously has some impressionistic-like talent. The brushstrokes are fantastic:

Chester. I'm smitten with you.

Chester. I’m smitten with you.

I still need to frame this. I was thinking a gilded gold one to contrast with the black background? He deserves a decorate enclosure, don’t you think?

Looking at this pig, reminds me how darn thankful I am to have Mr. Speedy.
A husband that allows me to buy a farm animal painting on a moments notice.
A spouse that is okay with my taste in decor.
A partner that supports my random needs or wants.

This painting will always remind me of our first 100 days or so together.
It’ll remind me of this summer.
Waking up late and finding each other under the sheets.
It’ll remind me of meandering around an antique shop, looking for everything and nothing all at once.
Picking out items and pointing, as if silently asking ‘Will this work?’
It’ll remind me of saying yes sometimes to things out of the ordinary.

Like this painting.

When I chatted Mr. Speedy that we have been together for same amount of days that it takes a pig to reproduce, his response was this:

2014-07-15_1023

Did I mention I love this man?
He doesn’t even realize how directly he speaks to my heart, my soul, the marrow of my bones.

A painting for each cornerstone in marriage.
What an unconventional, romantic way to go about our life together.

MUSHY, I KNOW.

Sincerely,

Lily

Summer Sand

This summer has been filled with sun, sand, and sangria.

Ah. Just the way I like it.

Nieces running in the sand.

Nieces running in the sand.

For the 4th of July, Mr. Speedy’s sister, her husband, and their three children drove in from Nebraska to join us on Lake Michigan in a beach cottage.

Randomly, the property also included a train caboose:

Boxcar Children, anyone? If you know what I am referring too then we are probably book soulmates.

ANYWAYS, we spent three full days burying our toes in the sand, drinking my sister-in-law’s yummy margaritas that involved a number of things and tasted like the most delicious thing ever to hit your lips, and just being together. My brothers even joined us. Here are a few favorite snapshots:

The men in my life.

The men in my life.

Possible Titles: Lover of Me. Lover. I Drool At You, Eternally. Let Me Stare At You.

Possible Titles: Lover of Me. Lover. I Drool At You, Eternally. Let Me Stare At You.

Can we just take a moment and appreciate the utter cuteness of tiny Lillyan—-

Look at those blue eyes.

Look at those blue eyes.

Question- what do you get when you have some seashells with tiny holes, weeds, and time on your hands?

Answer: Fancy crowns only mermaids would wear.

I channeled my inner-Pocahontas and weaved this seashell crown of weeds for my niece, Londyn to wear:

Fancy!

Fancy!

Cool, RIGHT?

We even found a flower to add to it. She had to pose by her Uncle Speedy, sound asleep:

Hello? Are you alive?

Hello? Are you alive?

One of the best parts about this trip was spending time with my sister-in-law.

She is totally an inspiration for the type of mom I want to be- hard-working, supportive, organized, AND did I mention she teaches Jazzercise and is in super shape? Yeah. In between meal preps, bath time, and poopy pants, she does it all.

This e-card sums reminds me of her:

bahahahhaha

bahahahhaha

Also, her and her husband are the cutest. She will hate me for posting this picture BUT can we just comment on her hubby’s dreamy look towards her? UM SWOOOOOON:

If this is not a look of love, then I don't know what is.

If this is not a look of love, then I don’t know what is.

I loved hanging out with them.

This was our first time hanging out with another sibling married couple. It was like a rite of passage and we passed with flying colors… at least I think we did. They didn’t run way screaming to get back to Nebraska.

On a completely unrelated note, my sister-in-law is an excellent cook. She made this bean recipe that is BEYOND any type of pork n bean thing you have had. If you like beans with a BBQ, you must try this out:

Bean Casserole
1 can pork and beans
1 can kidney beans – drained
1 can butter beans – drained
1/2lb browned hamburger
1/2lb cooked bacon
1/2 cup diced sweet onion
1/2 cup ketchup
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 TBSP vinegar
Mix all together, put in a casserole dish and bake at 350 for an hour. Howeer, she does suggest to put it in a crockpot for a better flavor!
WARNING: Don’t eat like 5 cups like I did…. you will regret it the next day and your husband will question ever sitting next to you in a car again.
Sincerely,
Lily

A ‘Repeat’ Type of Weekend

This weekend was full of fun times-

We froze at a baseball game.
Got severely fried by the summer sun.
And survived the dangers paddle boarding.

Really, it was fun.

The company was the best and this was the type of weekend I’d just like to hit a ‘repeat’ button and do again.

So happy we were all together!

So happy we were all together!

Friday was the baseball game where the temperature dropped and people actually were wearing winter hats and gloves.
It was also Polish Night at the game which means we got to watch a traditional Polish dance show.
And sing the national anthem of Poland.
Random.

Saturday was a total blast – we made a big breakfast and then hit the beach.

We (and I mean all four of us) did not think to use sunscreen because the day started off a bit chilly therefore it is impossible to get any type of burn….. (right?)
I actually spent the first hour underneath a blanket – yeah, I was that person:

beach

DON’T I JUST LOOK LIKE A BUNDLE OF HAPPINESS?

Eventually, I shed the towel and we all enjoyed the day in the sand.
The boys played cornhole like 354 times.
Us girls layed out (aka BURNT OUR BODIES).
I people watched. (OK- I really just watched babies and toddlers because they are so darn cute in their little sunhats and attempts to eat sand.)
Paddle boards were rented and paddled around (which is a total blast by the way- do it!).
Drinks and snacks were consumed.

From the beach (and before we realized how truly burnt we were), we met Mr. Speedy’s friend and all went out to eat at Vinsetta Garage.
This place is a little gem in metro-Detroit so naturally, our out-of-town guests had to eat there!

This is what marriage does to you.

This is what marriage does to you.

I orderd the EV1- a vegan patty that was amazzzing.

I ordered the EV1- a vegan patty that was amazzzing.

After dinner we all went home and reazlied we were severly burnt, had to rush out and buy Aloe (and Twizzlers because they make everything better), and take turns applying goops of it all over our bodies. All of us blamed each other for not putting sunscreen on. Our tan lines are horrific.

Sunday the boys got up early to go watch NASCAR, and us girls had a relaxing day together.

First – mimosas and brunch!

I got a boca burger... I don't know what is with me an these things lately!

I got a boca burger… I don’t know what is with me an these things lately!

Second- we toured Meadowbrook Hall.

I love this historic home and you can throw events here. I tried convincing Brosef-in-law’s girlfriend that she should probably just get married here… I would help plan it. I think I convinced her… to never tour a historical home again with me.

It is only 88,000 sq ft. No big deal.

It is only 88,000 sq ft. No big deal.

After our cultural activity, we learned that her flight got cancelled and decided to cook a fabulous meal for our men.

We both like scallops but had never tried cooking them… so we gave it a whirl.

And it was FANTASTIC. If you like scallops, you’ll love this:

Ricotta Lemon Pasta with Seared Scallops and Sugar Snap Peas

So tastyyyyy.

So tastyyyyy.

What you need:

  • 1 package of pasta (whatever kind you prefer)
  • 1 lb of sea scallops (I counted on 4-5 scallops per person)
  • olive oil
  • 1 Tbls. butter
  • 2 lemons
  • 1 package of sugar snap peas (or regular peas, or whatever veggie you prefer)
  • Thyme, Basil, sea salt, pepper
  • 1 container of ricotta cheese (I used part-skim)

1. Cook the pasta (while it is cooking, move on to step two). When finished, set aside in a bowl, but toss with some olive oil so it doesn’t get clumpy and sticky.
2. Rinse scallops and pat dry. Sprinkle with pepper, olive oil, and some lemon juice.
3. In a large skillet on high heat, heat up some olive oil and butter until foamy.
4. Place scallops in skillet, single layer. Squeeze a bit more lemon juice on top if you want. Cook, turning once, and until brown on outside… about 2 minutes (these cook very fast!).
5.Remove scallops and set aside.
6. In large pot over low heat, heat up lemon juice from at least one lemon, about 3 Tbl. olive oil, a hefty scoop of Thyme, Basil, and dashes of pepper, salt. Add sugar snap peas and let simmer for a few minutes. Toss in the pasta and mix. Add the ricotta cheese and mix gently until everything is evenly coated.
7. Pour pasta/snap pea mixture into a serving dish. Top with scallops and serve!

Us girls really set the mode for the post-NASCAR dinner, pulling on the candlesticks and wine glasses:

After our feast of seafood, we all settled in and watched a 3D movie which is the only time it is socially acceptable to wear shades indoors and if you are like me, wear your regular glasses under the shades. Yep, I felt like a real winner wearing two sets of glasses.

All in all, I loved everything about this weekend !

What was your favorite thing about this weekend??? Burning my bellybutton was a highlight but drinking mimosas and having a girly brunch was probably my favorite thing!

Sincerely,

Lily

Weekend Visitors

This weekend we have some Nebraskaian’s visiting.

Mr. Speedy's brother and his girlfriend.

Mr. Speedy’s brother and his girlfriend.

Aren’t they a good looking couple? Wowzers.

I’m pretty pumped for this visit because:

  • Guest room/bathroom: I love prepping these rooms and getting them all hotel-like for people to stay. You better believe there will be mints on the pillow.
  • No more headphones: Mr. Speedy recently bought these headphones, which cancel out all noise (a.k.a. ME) and cause him to do puzzles for  hours at a time while I melt in a pile of boredom in the corner. This will not be happening this weekend. Also, I loathe these headphones.
Hello? Talk to me. Stop with the puzzle.

Hello? Talk to me. Stop with the puzzle.

  • Friday Night Out: We are going to the Tigers baseball game  and then Greektown in Detroit. I’m super pumped for this night out but also have a serious concern about falling asleep during the game and getting smacked with a fly ball. I might need to take a power nap in the car.
  • Family: We don’t get to see Mr. Speedy’s family often sooooooooooo this is such a special treat!
  • Brothery-Interaction: I find it really entertaining to watch Mr. Speedy and his brother interact. They don’t look alike, have different personalities, and interests. Yet…. they are very similar. It is a phenomenon. A mystery.
  • Motivation to Beautify our Home: So… I have like a box full of picture frames that are… just collecting dust. It is an eyesore. Our walls needed a change. Knowing that we are having visitors motivated my inner-home-decor-I-need-to-fill-frames side. Naturally, wedding pictures were chosen because they are pretty, professional, and make my heart happy.
  • Beach day: There is a beach like less than two miles from our house. We plan to go there. Best thing about going to the beach is no one judges you for falling asleep in your bikini, in a public area, in the middle of the day. I was made for the beach.
OUT. Asleep. Party-pooper = ME.

OUT. Asleep. Party-pooper = ME.

Sunday the men are going to watch the NASCAR race (Mr. Speedy is an avid fan- fun fact).

My dear sweet husband asked if I wanted to go and this is pretty much what I said:

So while the men are gone, us girls are going to do girly things… that don’t involve NASCAR and most likely involve glasses of Sangria under the sun.
I’m super duper excited!

What’s your favorite thing to do when you have overnight visitors? I like to watch them while they sleep…. KIDDING. THAT IS CREEPY. I just like to host! (But not like a vampire…. another creepy comment. Never mind. I’ll stop writing now.)

Sincerely,

Lily

The Best Stamp in my Passport

Name this movie-

But Jack, Jack gave me the perfect gift
a stamp in my passport.
He took me to Florence for our honeymoon.
I guess he might say he gave me the world.

While You Were Sleeping.

While You Were Sleeping.

As I held my ticket to Paris, this scene and these words kept replaying in my head.

I was about to see the world, a world I only had studied and read about in Art History, a world that Mr. Speedy knew meant everything to me.

I hope one day I can give him the world.
The trip of a lifetime.
Take him some place he has always wanted to go but never had the chance.
Maybe this will just a be a lifetime of making a home, family, and memories with him?

Here is an overview of what we did/saw during our trip.

First, Mr. Speedy really went above and beyond with our stay in Pairs.
We stayed in a suite at the Saint James Pairs.
A previous mansion that is now a luxury hotel.

The lobby.

The lobby.

Us on the first night outside the Saint James.

Our room was two levels and decorated in highly elaborate fabrics, wallpapers, patterns, and paintings. We had a spiral staircase that made me dizzy. Portraits of people. A set of really tall windows (no screens). It was very unique.

The sitting room. I LOVE this book wallpaper.

The sitting room. I LOVE this book wallpaper.

Enough about the room.

Here is what we did:

  • Arc de triomphe
  • Eiffel Tower
  • Musee de l’orangerie (see the beautiful massive Monet waterlilies here)
  • Champs Elysees (major street with shopping, shopping, and more shopping)
  • Musée Marmottan (a tour of a patron’s mansion…. SO much impressionism inside. GO SEE THIS.)
  • Louvre – we did not go in because that would take me weeks to get through, but walked along the outside
  • Notre Dame
  • Sainte Chapelle
  • Pont des arts (the lock bridge for lovers — DO THIS IF YOU GO TO PARIS WITH YOUR LOVE)
  • Musee Rodin (MY FAVORITE. I WOULD LIKE TO LIVE IN HERE.)
  • Les Invalides (Napolean’s tomb…. it is massive and the most regal thing ever).
I started to cry when I saw this. I cried pretty much everywhere I went. It was all so beautiful.

Oh someone was being funny.

Napolean’s Tomb-

It was MASSIVE.

Then we took a train and went to Nice for the rest of the week.

Our hotel was built into the side of a rock formation (Hotel la Perouse), jutting out along the sea. Just above us, we could hike up to the castle ruins and overlook the entire town. Nice was relaxing, less crowded than Paris, and had all the food of Italy. I loved it.

Loved these steps.

We exlored the marina, I got my hair cut, and we sat long the coast.

Our room here was very romantic-

Hearts everywhere.

Kissing.

And the only sunset we caught was on our last night, in a hotel room at the airport, a perfect ending to the entire trip-

Airport sunset.

Tell me-

What has been your favorite vacation ever?

Was it Florida?
That time you went on a girls only getaway to your best friend’s house.
Italy.
Somewhere with a beach.
Tell me what blew your socks off.

Memories of a Champagne Gown and a French romance

Marriage.

What a simple two-syllable word that already holds such a heavy, happy weight in my heart.

Married.

Married.

I don’t have any professional pictures or the video back yet, so I am going to only post a few pictures to give a brief overview.

This day was heavy and thick with emotion and in the future, I’ll blog about moments in-depth (such as opening my wedding gift from Mr. Speedy or finding out my little brother was wearing my veil and taking selfies).

The 1920’s theme turned out amazing! It was blast to see how everything came together.

I will say, my absolute most favorite part of that entire day, was saying my vows.

I really thought it was going to be when I first saw and locked eyes with Mr. Speedy while walking down the aisle… but saying my vows was the most surreal moment I have ever had in my short life. I’ll never forget the look of pure happiness and committment and love on his face.

And apparently (I do not remember this), I jumped up and down a little out of excitement in the middle of this process. Megan and Brittany, do you recall?

Vows.

Vows.

Favorite moment.

Favorite moment.

Married!

Married!

From there, the rest was a blur but a lot of fun and LET ME JUST SAY-

Having a big wedding is worth it for the fact that you are surrounded by a group of people who would probably never be together in the same room and there is such an overwhelming feeling of support and happiness, it makes it worth every single penny. After the vows, the best part was spending time and seeing people from near and far!

These kids were the best. I am so happy they were a part of the wedding.

These kids were the best. I am so happy they were a part of the wedding.

My wedding gift from Mr. Speedy was a beautiful pearl and crystal back drape necklace.

I am only going to wear backless gowns now.

I am only going to wear backless gowns now.

It matched perfectly and was simply stunning. If you really want one, you can get order one from BHLDN from here. And then we can be twins.

HONEYMOON-

So when did I find out where I was going???

While signing our marriage license with the Priest, best man, and maid of honor someone let the secret out.

The Priest.

Of all people, he simply says to me, “So, I heard you are going to Paris. That’ll be quite a trip.”

Mr. Speedy’s face was shocked. I think he felt somewhat betrayed by the man that just married us.

So the next morning, straight from the hotel, we flew to Paris. PARIS.
PARIS.
PARIS.
PARISSSSSSSS.

This is probably the most selfless trip Mr. Speedy could have planned. My undergraduate degree was in Art History and impressionism is my favorite, but I have never been to Paris. Mr. Speedy planned this entire honeymoon around my love of art.

Each morning, I’d ask him – “What do you want to do today?”
“I want to see you smile and happy.”
And then I usually would have an internal debate on exploring Paris or staying locked away in our honeymoon nest of hotel room and come up for air hours, days later.
What is a girl to do with a response like that?

Louvre!

Louvre!

I made an amazing discovery on this trip. Mr. Speedy is completely capable of looking at art for hours, but only if you feed him a beer or two every other hour or so. This kept him sustained to see and observe art in an enjoyable matter.
When I missed my opportunity to get him a beer or food, this is what resulted:
Sleeping in Notre Dame. Sleeping in Notre Dame.

On the other hand, I could have given up food and all drinks and showers for weeks and would have still had this smile-

Are you ready to see another cathedral???

Are you ready to see another cathedral???

We spent the first half of the week in Paris, then took a train to Nice for the remainder of our honeymoon.

And somewhere between getting married, being in Europe, and seeing so many new things –  I decieded t oget my hair cut by a man that did not speak any English and smelled strongly of espresso and chocolate.

It truly was a wonderful trip.

Hair cut! This is in Nice.

Hair cut! This is in Nice.

I am wearing the dress he bought me for the honeymoon in this picture. I felt extremely posh prancing around in this with my new haircut.

🙂

More to come this week….. XoXo

Sincerely,

Mr. Speedy’s WIFE

Timeline of Love

I am getting married tomorrow.

timeline

Mr. Speedy and I  have been together for just less than two years.

So much has happened.

We met.
We swooned.
We immediately fell into a love that kind of roots itself to the inner core of your being and constantly grows.
We had our first date that ended with such a passionate make-out, just thinking about it makes me sweat.
We continued seeing each other, every day.
We ran.
We traveled.
We laughed.
We enjoyed life in a new way- with each other.

After 4 months, Mr. Speedy started saving for an engagement ring.
Less than a year together, he asked me to be his wife.
And now, we are getting married.

Family is arriving from out of town. Friends are flying in. It really is quite remarkable the amount of support we have been given.

Yesterday was a whirlwind of running around, delivering everything to the reception hall, and getting my manly eyebrows waxed (I FEEL SO MUCH BETTER).

Mr. Speedy’s sister spent the day at my parents MAKING the wedding cake. It is lemon flavored and I think she zested like 46 lemons. Have I mentioned how amazing she is? Really. She puts any baking I have done to shame. What a selfless lady.

Actually, there have been a lot of selfless and helpful people making our wedding come together. Mr. Speedy’s other sister is a hairdresser and is doing the mothers do’s, along with the flower girls. My cousin figured out how to sew an extra piece of elastic to hold in my headpiece. My Aunt helped me with all my tulle cutting and a friend helped me sort. My parents have always been there for me, letting me bounce ideas off of them and assisted with the seating chart. My co-workers are amazing and helped with the centerpieces and one made the card box-

Today, my plans are to go get a hard work out done, get my nails painted, complete packing for mystery honeymoon, pick up my dress and then check into the hotel. The rehearsal begins at 6pm then dinner afterwards (Mr. Speedy’s parents are hosting it!), and then we all go back to the hotel for the night. Mr. Speedy and I are keeping it very traditional and staying in separate suites and not seeing each other until the ceremony.

Tonight will be a big reunion with my girlfriends. My three girls in the wedding will be sleeping in the suite with me, but  Brittany and Megan and two of my girlfriends will be visiting too. I am excited- I already have plastic champagne glasses and champagne packed! Hopefully I stay away past 9 pm.

I know that tomorrow will go by so quickly that it’ll be a blur.

But there is a moment that is on constant repeat in my mind that I hope I can remember every single sweet second and always conjure up in my mind.

It’ll be that moment the cathedral doors open and I lo ck eyes with Mr. Speedy, walking down the aisle with my Dad. It’ll be that moment that the ceremony starts and we are about to start our marriage. That moment we finally are together after much anticipation and prep. That moment he finally sees me, not as his fiance or girlfriend, but as his wife.

And then after that… life with him. I am excited to just be married and fall into a rhythm that works for both of us and pursuing things we want to do. I am excited to start a family. I am excited to have Mr. Speedy as my husband and life-long companion.

I am excited for forever with him despite the fact that forever always seems to short with him.

We were stuck staring at each other.

We were stuck staring at each other.

Goodbye Blogging world for a bit…. I will return to you as one happily married gal who just went on a honeymoon… to somewhere !

Sincerely,

Very-Almost-Married-Lily

If you are free tomorrow at 3pm, please say a short prayer…. that I don’t trip or cry too much. KIDDING. We will be starting our marriage ceremony at that time at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament. It is a gorgeous, awe-filling space.

But really, pray that I don’t trip.

Honeymoon Location……

Several months ago, Mr. Speedy did something.

On my birthday.

On my birthday.

I was getting stressed over some wedding detail while out to dinner with him, my Mom, and sister. I barely enjoyed my meal because I was so upset and in a fit over whatever (I can’t even remember what it was – money? centerpieces?). I did not finish my meal and remember leaving the dinner feeling selfish and silly and exhausted. How dare this planning rob precious time away from a beautiful dinner with my family and love. What the heck, I thought to myself.

While driving home, Mr. Speedy turned down the radio, grabbed my hand, and told me something that I did not predict at all.

“The honeymoon,” he said. “You have been doing so much with everything else and  I can see it is a lot….. so the honeymoon.”

“Yes? What about it?” I questioned. At this point, we had played around with different places but nothing had formed.

“I am going to take care of it. I am going to plan it, pay for it, and get it all together. You just show up, say ‘I do,’ and fly away with me.”

And then my jaw fell straight into my lap and I melted into a pile of mush.

Really.

I’ll plan it. Pay for it. Show up and marry me then fly away…

WHO SAYS THINGS LIKE THIS? DO ROMANTIC GESTURES LIKE THIS EXIST?

Yes, Mr. Speedy does things like this. I felt just like Carrie in Sex and the City, when Big decides to pick up the tab for their new, beautiful apartment. Like no big deal. I got it.

That being said, here is what I know about the surprise honeymoon:

  • Passport: He asked for this so we are going out of the country and I don’t think it is Canada.
  • No-beach (maybe): We have already done the sun and beach trip to Cancun… something tells me we aren’t repeating that type of trip.
  • Europe: Someone slipped and hinted that we were traveling to this continent… SO I AM PRETTY SURE WE ARE FLYING IN THIS DIRECTION. I REALLY want to go to Europe and we discussed this location a bit before he decided to plan the entire thing. My vote would be France because what better place to go on your honeymoon? Plus, the art. I would…. drool over being able to see Paris.  Or Italy…. Tuscany or Venus? Actually, anywhere on that continent would be fantastically wonderful. Greece. Ireland. Spain England. ANYWHERE.
  • I don’t know what to pack: This is a dilemma. If you think planning a wedding is hard, trying doing that and then packing for a honeymoon where you don’t know the location. YEAH, HELLO SUITCASE ANXIETY

However, he did recently gift me this beautiful Brooks Brothers dress (find it here) and said it was specifically for the trip:

I should probably buy this purse..... don't you think?

I should probably buy this purse….. don’t you think?

I can’t wait to wear it! I also think I should pack this hat, pictured below:

I am the perfect tourist.

I am the perfect tourist.

KIDDING. I only wear that hat to super formal events that involve exotic cheeses and disturbing levels of various peanut butters. In other words, never.

I am contemplating about bringing an almost completely EMPTY suitcase and then I will just HAVE TO SHOP on the honeymoon for outfits. But if Mr. Speedy planned a honeymoon in like rural Antarctica, well, I am not sure how much shopping I will be able to do. So this might not be the smartest plan.

So, let me ask-

What are your favorite items (clothing, type of shoes, etc.) to take on a trip?

What would you bring on a vacation that is a surprise?

Things I am for sure bringing: camera, books, clean underwear, lingerie, my favorite jeans, and my husband.

(I’m not really packing that last item, I just wanted to use the word husband).

Sincerely,

Slightly-Anxiety-Filled-But-Very-Excited-For-The-Surprise-Honeymoon Lily

P.S. He could have really planned a trip to rural Antarctica and I would be happy as a clam. As long as Mr. Speedy is beside me for the entire trip and I have access to wine and a crackling fireplace,  I am totally fine with going anywhere with him.

P.S.S. But really, I hope we aren’t going to rural Antarctica.

Ten Things (actually, eleven)

Art deco bride.

Art deco bride.

1. I had my second dress fitting while simultaneously getting my you-know-what.

Dear Period- Hi. I am so glad you visited because a) I officially will not be a pregnant bride, something that I have had nightmares about and b) you will not be around during my wedding day or honeymoon week. BUT SERIOUSLY. WHY MUST YOU VISIT ME WHEN I HAVE TO PUT ON MY DRESS IN FRONT OF STRANGERS AND BE POKED WITH SEWING NEEDLES. YOU ARE RUTHLESS. YOU ARE INCONSIDERATE.

Have you no mercy?

2. I painted my nails a deep red wine color, a possible choice for the wedding.

When I asked Mr. Speedy what he thought, his exact response was “Isn’t that a little drab and dark for a wedding?”

Obviously, he does not understand my vintage look.

3. Velcro wallets = never a good thing.

No.

No.

Recently, my girlfriend went on a few dates with a guy and he had a Velcro wallet. Let me just throw this out there- men, do not ever own a Velcro wallet if you are above the age of 18. I cringe at the thought of having a date offer to pay, pull out his wallet, and then hearing that crrrrrrink of Velcro being pulled apart.

Obviously, she is not dating him anymore.

4. Mr. Speedy was stretching the other day, and flexed his arms over his head and I about fell out of my chair.

With the wedding so close and so much to do, I haven’t had time to stare and drool and study Mr. Speedy to the sickening level of devotion and obsession that I normally do. I caught a glimpse of his arms and got all the breath knocked out of me.

“Wow,” I exclaimed. “Your arms…. have you been working out more?”
“No, they are the same.”
“No, I am pretty sure your muscles are currently occupying more space and taking over my brain.”

He did not respond.

I truly appreciate how he puts up with my clingy-creepy stares.
Thank you, Mr. Speedy, for accepting this as a way of life.

5. Speaking of muscles, these legs are my favorite.

Mhhmmmm these legs.

Mhhmmmm these legs.

6. I have been awkwardly crying and proclaiming to strangers that I am changing my last name soon.

I have been having a lot of word-vomit moments lately where I just spew out random things to random people that probably could care less. I have also been getting teary-eyed while doing things that involve my last name. And by things, I mean like signing my bill.

For example, whenever I get to sign my bill or someone uses my last name, I have been saying things like this:

“Soon, I will not be signing this last name ever again.”
“Oh gosh… so soon it will be gone.” TEARS.
“I will not have this name much longer.” TEARS.
“I need to practice signing my new last name.”
“I am sorry, I am a little emotional about this name.” TEARS.

7. Oh gosh, my last name. Goodbye. Goodbye tiny Lily who sat in buckets. I might be crying right now.

I really am quite the worker. Promise.

I really am quite the worker. Promise.

8. I think I am going to drink an entire bottle of this Sleep mist.

Buy this for anyone, they are sure to love it. Who doesn't like to relax and sleep???

Buy this for anyone, they are sure to love it. Who doesn’t like to relax and sleep???

Surely, this will cause me to sleep better and calm down.

9. Please remind me to not drink bottles that have the word sleep on them.

10. My Pirate Father has a speech to write.

When I asked my father if he was preparing for his speech at the wedding, his response was –

“What speech? Do people even do that anymore?”

Fathers are really funny sometimes. They like to joke at you when you are full of tension and stress.

11. This picture really calms me down. And makes me feel gooey and happy and completely content.

Just engaged.

Just engaged.

I am just going to stare at this picture for the next two weeks.

Sincerely,

Lily

Valentine, You Make Me Laugh

Happy Valentine’s Day!

This is very true.

This is very true.

More importantly…. happy Friday and helloooooo weekend!

I’ll keep this short and sweet.

Last night, I prepped myself for date night tonight- this included shaving my legs (pretty big deal).

Mr. Speedy and I are planning on having a dinner in (he is cooking the meal). I love it when he cooks and I love dates in. You can really capitalize on being in the privacy of your own home and a)make-out all the time b) have instant bathroom access- no waiting in line at the women’s stalls and c) you don’t need to wear pants. What is better than not wearing pants??

I am going to keep it classy though and will probably end up wearing this new top I got awhile go and who knows what else. Maybe I just will wear a sundress and pretend if is summer since we are staying in our toasty home?

So true.

I hope you all have a wonderful day, my dear friends.

And if for some reason you are getting picked up somewhere by someone, I hope you don’t get left behind.

This has been making me laugh for weeks. Poor Carl.

May all your hopes and dreams come true !
